The Monument Trail is a project championed by Colorado West Land Trust to connect key outdoor spaces in Western Colorado. This 10-mile loop, weaving through the stunning landscapes of the Redlands, offers a safe, scenic, and seamless route for hikers, cyclists, and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

A Decade of Collaboration

For more than a decade, CWLT has worked to conserve the lands surrounding this trail. Starting with the preservation of the Three Sisters property in 2012, we’ve partnered with the City of Grand Junction, Mesa County, local donors, and Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) to acquire the necessary land and rights of way. Together we worked on 9 real estate transactions to conserve 213 acres of public open space along the corridor, and raised more than $5 million to support land acquisition and recreational infrastructure, including the design and construction of the Monument Trail. Thanks to this community-wide effort, we are just steps away from completing this monumental trail connection.

A Vision for Connection and Accessibility

The Monument Trail is set to transform the way we access and enjoy the incredible landscapes of Western Colorado. By providing direct trail access for residents in nearby communities, this project will significantly reduce the need for driving to popular trailheads like the Lunch Loops, easing parking pressures and improving convenience. Instead of battling car traffic along the Monument Corridor, trail users will now be able to seamlessly connect with nature right from their neighborhoods.

Designed with inclusivity in mind, the trail accommodates users of all ages and abilities, making Grand Junction’s outdoor spaces more accessible to everyone in the community, whether you’re hiking, biking, or simply taking in the scenery.

This project not only connects trails but also connects our community to the landscapes that make Western Colorado so special.
