You’re Invited to Help Us Celebrate 40 Years!

 

In case you missed the news, Colorado West Land Trust is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary this year! In January we had planned no less than six events to mark this milestone, but like everyone else, we’ve had to remain versatile. Instead of our usual fall open house, this year we have planned a few workshops on topics of interest and a virtual celebration complete with local wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages and a special dessert. Session 1: The History and Current State of Ag Labor in Grand Valley, presented by Bruce Talbott. 

Wednesday, December 2nd, 12:00 – 1:00 pm.

Join us as we explore this timely and interesting topic with Bruce Talbott, a 5th generation farmer and farm manager at Talbott’s Mountain Gold in Palisade. Bruce will explain the Talbott’s experience with attaining and managing the labor that is so important to western Colorado’s conserved land and contributes to production of the Palisade peaches we all love.

Session 2: Introduction to Water Law, presented by Mark Hermundstad

Thursday, December 3rd, 12:00 – 1:00 pm.

Mark is a CWLT board member and a retired water attorney with 40 years of experience representing individuals, irrigation entities and municipal water providers in the Grand Valley and Western Colorado. In this session Mark will discuss how water rights are created, different types of water rights, perfecting water rights, how water rights priorities are determined and changing water rights.

Session 3: The Grand Valley’s Irrigation Systems, presented by Mark Hermundstad

Thursday, December 10th, 12:00 – 1:00 pm.

Grand Valley has six major irrigation entities that divert water from the Gunnison and Colorado Rivers. In this session Mark will describe each of these entities, including their history, the water rights they own, the areas they cover, and how important they are to fulfilling CWLT’s mission.
